Ocean Piece, by Portuguese artist Jorge Martins with poetry by American Poet, Walt Whitman and Portuguese poet, Fernando Pessoa, is located at Archives-Navy Memorial station on the Green and Yellow Lines in the District of Columbia. The 32-ton wave-shaped, Viana green marble wall sculpture is a gift to the Nation's Capital from the Lisbon Subway. The ten-foot-high, sixty-foot-long sculpture is flanked by two engraved poems; Prayer of Columbus, by Whitman and Occident, by Pessoa. Ocean Piece was created by the artist to evoke notions of the constant ebb and flow of life.
