About Metro
As of Jan. 4, 2009, Metro stopped issuing and accepting paper transers. To get the rail-to-bus discount or to transfer free from bus to bus, you must use a SmarTrip® card.
If you pay your bus fare with a SmarTrip® card, you may make unlimited Metrobus connections, including round trips within three hours.
Pay your Metrorail fare using SmarTrip® and you'll pay a reduced fare when transferring to Metrobus and most local buses.
A customer using SmarTrip® transferring from a $1.35 regular-fare route to a $3.10 express route pays only the $1.75 difference.
