New York Ave Station renamed "NoMa-Gallaudet U"

At the request of the District of Columbia, the Metro Board of Directors has approved a station name change for the current "New York Ave" station on the Red Line.  The new official station name is NoMa-Gallaudet U.

NoMa, or "North of Massachusetts Avenue" refers to the name of the surrounding neighborhood.New York Ave sign

While the name change will formally take effect on June 18, along with Rush+ service changes, customers will begin noticing new signage and other materials in the coming weeks as Metro transitions to the new name.  Platform signs, station entrance pylons, maps and other materials will all be updated to reflect the change.

During the transition, customers are advised that the station names "New York Ave" and "NoMa-Gallaudet U" may be used interchangeably.  They refer to the same place.

To help customers with the transition, "New York Ave" will be used as the station's secondary name on Metro maps for about 18 months.
