Red Line weekend track work August 10-12: Buses replace trains between Grosvenor & Friendship Heights

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, August 10, and continuing through system closing on Sunday, August 12, buses will replace Red Line trains between Grosvenor and Friendship Heights stations to allow for rail renewal/replacement, structural repairs, tunnel leak mitigation and related improvements.

Two stations will be closed:

  • Medical Center
  • Bethesda

Red Line trains will operate in two segments:

  • Between Shady Grove and Grosvenor
  • Between Friendship Heights and Glenmont

On each segment, trains will operate every 10 minutes between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., and at regular weekend intervals at other times.

Customers traveling through the work zone should allow about 30 minutes of additional travel time.

Last train before work begins:  On Friday night, the last trains to operate through the work zone before work begins will be the 9:28 p.m. departure from Shady Grove and the 9:04 p.m. departure from Glenmont.

Last train times from Shady Grove:  On Friday and Saturday nights, the last train from Shady Grove will depart at 1:58 a.m. (32 minutes earlier than normal) to allow for bus/rail connections.  On Sunday night, the last train from Shady Grove will depart at 10:58 p.m.
