Weekend service adjustments March 6-8 for rebuilding

UPDATED: The previously scheduled Green Line shutdown between College Park & Greenbelt has been cancelled.

Reconstruction of the Metrorail system will continue over the weekend of March 6-8 with service adjustments on five of six rail lines.

This weekend, Orange Line trains will operate at regular intervals. Red Line trains will run every 8-16 minutes; Green and Yellow Line trains every 15 minutes.

Blue Line trains will operate normally between Franconia-Springfield and Stadium-Armory, and Silver Line trains will operate normally between Wiehle-Reston East and Stadium-Armory. Riders traveling to or from five stations at the far eastern end of the Blue/Silver lines should allow additional time.

Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend: Daylight-saving time begins at 2 a.m. EST on Sunday, March 8. At that time, all clocks are moved ahead one hour. When that happens, it will become 3 a.m. EDT (new time), and the Metrorail system will close. Riders should expect the last trains of the evening to move through stations between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. EST (old time).

Metro is investing $5.5 billion to install new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more. It represents the largest capital investment -- and work effort -- since the system's original construction in the early 1970s.
