Detours and Bus Stop Relocations due to Construction at Union Station (Columbus Plaza)
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is currently reconstructing Columbus Plaza in front of Union Station.
During the project, which is expected to last until spring 2013, traffic congestion is expected to cause significant delays for vehicles traveling through the plaza. In addition, the bus stop and terminal stand for Metrobus routes 97, D8, and X8 in the plaza and the westbound stop on Columbus Circle (Union Station Plaza outer roadway) for Metrobus routes 96 and D6 will be closed for construction.
Bus Stop Relocations
- To maintain Metrobus service to Union Station safely and efficiently, the stop and terminal stand for Routes 97, D8, and X8 will be relocated to the south side of Massachusetts Avenue NE between North Capitol Street and 1st St NE.
- Westbound Route D6 will be rerouted to serve a new stop on the north side of E Street NE, east of North Capitol Street.
Bus Detours
Metrobus will serve the following street segments during the detour:
96 – Westbound
- Westbound bus stop on Columbus Circle will be closed during construction.
- Regular route; No detour
96 – Eastbound
- Regular route; No detour
97 – Westbound
- Regular route to the intersection of Louisiana Av and North Capitol St
- North Capitol St, between Louisiana Av and Massachusetts Av
- Massachusetts Av NE, between North Capitol St and new terminal stand just east of North Capitol St
97 – Eastbound
- Massachusetts Av NE, between new terminal stand just east of North Capitol St and Columbus Circle
- E St NE, between Columbus Circle and North Capitol St
- North Capitol St, between E St and Louisiana Av
- Louisiana Av NW, between North Capitol St and continuation of regular route
D6 – Westbound
- Regular route to intersection of Columbus Circle and E St NE
- Westbound bus stop on Columbus Circle will be closed during construction.
- E St NE, between Columbus Circle and North Capitol St (new bus stop located on this segment)
- E St NE, between North Capitol St NE and continuation of regular route
D6 – Eastbound
- Regular route; No detour
D8 – Southbound
- Regular route to new terminal stand on Massachusetts Av NE just east of North Capitol St
D8 – Northbound
- Massachusetts Av NE, between new terminal stand just east of North Capitol St and Columbus Circle
- E St NE, between Columbus Circle and North Capitol St
- North Capitol St, between E St and Massachusetts Av
- North Capitol St, between Massachusetts Av and continuation of regular route
