Metrobus to add new service to The Wharf, Pentagon as part of service changes December 17

MetroExtra limited-stop service along 14th Street to begin January 8


Effective Sunday, December 17, Metrobus will launch new service to The Wharf in the District of Columbia, add trips to the Pentagon Transit Center in Virginia and modify routes around the Wheaton Metrorail Station in Maryland as part of service changes to 35 routes aimed at improving on-time performance.

Among the highlights of bus service changes on December 17:

  • Route 52 will be extended to 12th Street and Maine Avenue SW to serve L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail Station via The Wharf.
  • Routes C2, C4, Y2, Y7, and Y8 will be modified near the Wheaton Metrorail Station due to the upcoming closure of Reedie Drive.
  • Additional trips on routes 18P and 21D, funded by the I-395 Expresss Lanes Transportation Management Program, will serve the Pentagon Transit Center.

In addition, beginning Monday, January 8, 2018, new MetroExtra limited-stop Route 59 service will be added along 14th Street NW in the District of Columbia providing faster service and an additional travel option along the corridor between Takoma and Federal Triangle.

Virginia

8S, 8W, 8Z Foxchase-Seminary Valley

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

10A Alexandria-Pentagon

The bus stop at Huntington Metrorail Station will relocate from Bus Bay C to Bus Bay B to reduce bus bay congestion. There are no schedule changes.

16X Columbia Pike-Federal Triangle

The downtown terminal will relocate from northbound 11th and E streets NW to eastbound F and 11th streets NW. A new drop off-only bus stop will be added on westbound Pennsylvania Avenue and 12th Street NW to accommodate passengers on eastbound trips. There are no schedule changes.

17G, 17H, 17K, 17L Kings Park Express

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

18J Orange Hunt

A new southbound trip to Rolling Valley Park & Ride will be added departing the Pentagon at 6:15 a.m. The additional trip is funded by the I-395 Express Lanes Transportation Management Program and will operate for the duration of I-395 project construction.

18P Burke Centre

An eastbound short trip to the Pentagon will be added departing Rolling Valley Park & Ride at 6:59 a.m. Two westbound short trips to Rolling Valley Park & Ride will be added departing the Pentagon at 4:50 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. These additional trips are funded by the I-395 Express Lanes Transportation Management Program and will operate for the duration of I-395 project construction.

21D Landmark-Bren Mar Park-Pentagon

Two northbound trips to the Pentagon will be added departing Landmark Mews at 5:35 a.m. and 8:35 a.m. Two southbound trips to Landmark Mews will be added departing the Pentagon at 4:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. These additional trips are funded by the I-395 Express Lanes Transportation Management Program and will operate for the duration of I-395 project construction.

District of Columbia

52, 53, 54 14th Street

Route 52 will be extended to 12th Street and Maine Avenue SW to serve L'Enfant Plaza Metrorail Station via The Wharf. Routes 53 and 54 will be combined into a new Route 54 operating between Takoma Metrorail Station and F & 12th streets NW (Metro Center Metrorail Station). The Route 53 designation will be eliminated.

59 14th Street Limited (NEW)

Effective Monday, January 8, 2018, new MetroExtra limited-stop service will operate along 14th Street NW between the Takoma and Federal Triangle Metrorail stations every 15 minutes during weekday rush hours, 6:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:45-7 p.m.

96, 97 East Capitol Street-Cardozo

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

A9 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Limited

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance. A new stop will be added at 13th and G streets NW (Metro Center Metrorail Station).

E2 Ivy City-Fort Totten

The Saturday and Sunday timetables will be revised to improve on-time performance.

E4 Military Road-Crosstown

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

W4 Deanwood-Alabama Avenue

Weekday morning and afternoon rush hour trips will be added between Congress Heights Metrorail Station and 49th and East Capitol streets to relieve overcrowding.

W9 South Capitol Street Limited

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

X2 Benning Road-H Street

The weekday timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

Maryland

C2, C4 Greenbelt-Twinbrook

Eastbound buses departing Wheaton Metrorail Station will operate via Veirs Mill Road to access University Boulevard due to the upcoming closure of Reedie Drive. Eastbound service on Reedie Drive and Amherst Avenue will be eliminated.

C8 College Park-White Flint

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

89, 89M Laurel

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

J2, J3 Bethesda-Silver Spring

In Bethesda, the westbound morning rush hour detour on Battery Lane between Wisconsin Avenue and Woodmont Avenue will become the permanent routing.

K12 Forestville

Trips toward Suitland Metrorail Station will no longer serve Morris Avenue or Maxwell Drive. Buses will remain on southbound Auth Road to utilize the traffic signal for safer access to eastbound Allentown Road. An alternative stop is located at Auth Road & Magruder Avenue.

R4 Queens Chapel Road

The timetable will be revised to improve on-time performance.

Y2, Y7, Y8 Georgia Avenue-Maryland

Northbound buses departing Wheaton Metrorail Station will operate via Veirs Mill Road, University Boulevard, Grandview Avenue, and Blueridge Avenue to access Georgia Avenue due to the upcoming closure of Reedie Drive. Northbound service on Reedie Drive, and Georgia Avenue between Reedie Drive and Blueridge Avenue will be eliminated. The timetable will be revised to reflect additional travel time.
