Metro announces bus and rail service to be suspended to the Pentagon on Inauguration Day

Metro today is advising customers that bus and rail service will be temporarily suspended to the Pentagon on Inauguration Day, Wednesday, January 20, as part of security measures by the Pentagon for the 2021 Presidential Inauguration.

Blue and Yellow Line trains will continue to operate but will pass through the station without stopping. The Pentagon Transit Center, served by six Metrobus lines, will also be closed. Buses will be relocated instead to Pentagon City, on the east side of Hayes Street S. and 12th Street S. for the day.

Customers are also reminded that Metro is closing 13 additional stations, due to the expanded National Security Special Event (NSSE) for the Inauguration. Beginning today, 11 stations were closed within the security perimeter established by the U.S. Secret Service. Two additional stations – Metro Center and Gallery Place – will close beginning tomorrow. All 13 stations will reopen on Friday, January 22.  During this time, trains are passing through the stations without stopping.

Metrobus detours will be in effect on approximately 26 routes within the security perimeter and additional detours are possible. Due to the enhanced security measures, MetroAccess service for customers with disabilities will not be available within the secure zone.

Metro will continue to provide service where possible outside the security perimeter. Bus customers may wish to use Metrorail as an alternative to travel through the closed areas. Rail customers that need to transfer may use L’Enfant Plaza for connections between the Blue, Orange, Silver, Green and Yellow lines or Fort Totten for connections between the Red, Green and Yellow lines.
