Tonight Metro Transit Police arrested Deymon Levarne Childs, 40, of Suitland on a primary charge of second degree rape following an incident that allegedly occurred aboard a MetroAccess vehicle Monday afternoon in Hyattsville, MD.

Childs is an employee of First Transit, which operates MetroAccess service under contract for Metro.

The victim, an adult female who has an intellectual disability, reported to police that Childs, operating a MetroAccess vehicle, picked her up as scheduled at a location in Prince George’s County and was supposed to transport her to her residence. The alleged sexual assault occurred during the time the victim was aboard the vehicle. Through investigation, MTPD detectives identified the vehicle and determined that the location of the assault was along the side of Brightseat Road in Hyattsville.

The victim reported that the sexual assault occurred in the rear of the vehicle, and that the suspect, whom she identified as the van driver, committed unwanted sexual acts. The victim and the suspect were alone in the vehicle at the time of the assault.

The victim received care at a local hospital and has been released. The van was processed by MTPD crime scene technicians for available evidence.

MTPD obtained an arrest warrant for Childs late today. He is also charged with third degree sex offense and second degree assault.
