Metro Transit Police security operations control center credited with quick arrest of robbery suspect

Donnell Brown

MTPD's state-of-the-art Security Operations Control Center (SOCC) was credited with the quick arrest of a robbery suspect this afternoon.

At 1:04 p.m., Metro Transit Police received an emergency call from the station manager at Congress Heights Station reporting a robbery that had just occurred on the platform. The female victim reported that a male approached her, implied that he had a weapon and demanded money, which she relinquished to the suspect.

MTPD was provided with a description of the suspect-a tall black male wearing a red hat with blue trim, a jean jacket and light colored jeans. The victim further advised that the male boarded a Green Line train.

The SOCC immediately began tracking the location of trains in the area and calling up high-definition video cameras at Green Line stations in an attempt to locate anyone matching the description of the suspect.

At 1:11 p.m., SOCC video technicians reported observing a male matching the description exiting the Metrorail system two minutes earlier at Suitland Station. This critical information was relayed to MTPD patrol officers who converged on Suitland and began an area search. A male subject matching the description was located minutes later in the bus bay at the station aboard a Metrobus that was waiting to depart. Officers detained the subject for further investigation.

The victim was transported by MTPD officers to Suitland Station where she identified the male subject as the individual who committed the robbery. MTPD officers placed him under arrest for armed robbery.

The arrestee is identified as Donnell Floyd Brown, 20, of Forestville, Md. The victim was not injured.
