Metro advises customers of possible disruptions to bus service due to demonstration activity expected this weekend

Metrobus customers may experience significant delays and disruptions to service beginning this weekend due to planned demonstration activities in Downtown DC. Buses on 29 routes may be detoured or truncated through the downtown area. Traffic disruptions may continue for an extended period of time and demonstration activity may create additional impacts throughout the Washington, D.C. region.

Customers are encouraged to avoid the downtown area and use Metrorail to avoid delays or traffic issues caused by demonstration activities. On weekends, Metrorail offers a convenient, affordable way to get around with a flat $2 fare per one-way trip, no matter the distance traveled. That’s the same cost as Metrobus. In addition, bus fares are free on all regular routes when customers transfer to/from rail with the $2 transfer discount.

In the event buses are unable to service the downtown area, routes may be detoured or buses turned back. The following 29 Metrobus routes may be impacted:

5A, 16E, 32, 33, 36, 38B, 42, 43, 52, 54, 64, 70, 74, 79, 80, 96, D4, D6, D8, G8, L2, N2, N4, N6, P6, S2, S9, X2, X8

Customers choosing to use Metrorail are advised of track work on the Orange Line closing the New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood and Minnesota Ave stations. Free shuttle buses will be provided to/from the closed stations. For additional information on service adjustments view the weekend rail service advisory.
