Metro Transit Police arrest suspect in connection with homicide outside New Carrollton Station

Metro Transit Police today arrested Abel Rojas Guzman, 28, of Riverdale, Maryland, in connection with a homicide Sunday night outside the New Carrollton Metrorail Station.

Guzman, the suspected shooter, is charged with first-degree murder and related charges in the death of Demetrio Santos-Barros. Based upon witness statements and video evidence reviewed by MTPD detectives, it is alleged that Guzman approached the victim and fired multiple rounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation revealed that the incident was not random in nature, and that the suspect had been involved in an earlier altercation with the victim prior to returning to the station with a handgun.

MTPD took Guzman into custody without incident. Metro Transit Police Chief Ron Pavlik expressed his appreciation to the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, a division of the U.S. Marshals, for their assistance in the arrest. Guzman is being held in Prince George's County pending his first appearance in court.
