Local artists Skuda Gold and Iman Abdul-Ali were selected for the second community paint project - Bursting on the Scene - for the mural at the underpass located at the West Hyattsville station. The artists' designs are postcards pictures representing the balance of organic and geometric shapes that incorporate nature and wildlife. They are designed from sketches and pictures taken during a walk along the Anacostia River Trail, which can be accessed from the West Hyattsville Station. Because the metro station is a turnstile into the bountiful and beautiful wildlife of Hyattsville, it is fitting that green and yellow would be an integral part of the palette choice in the designs.

Artists Skuda Gold and Iman Abdul-Ali hold a background in arts in education. On the day of the event they guided residents to help paint a high-quality mural representing sustaining nature in a growing and changing community by combining a grid drawing technique to map out the colors by numbers to make painting the mural a fun, collaborative, and interactive experience for the community.

The project is supported by the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation (HCDC), in collaboration with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Art in Transit Program, the City of Hyattsville, Gilbane Development Company, Artist & Craftsman Supply, and local donors.
