Approaching the finish line
This summer’s work also includes constructing an important safety feature at all four stations: the “area of safe dispersal,” or ASD. In the past few weeks, the project team has been constructing new concrete areas at the end of each platform that will provide room for customers who cannot quickly exit the station in an emergency.

Demolition of the existing platform tiles and granite edge is complete at every station and the construction team is now busy repairing cracks, installing rebar, pouring concrete and placing new granite edge pieces.

June 29 Construction Update

Two weeks into the Summer 2021 Platform Improvement Project work
The process will take place over the next three months, which includes platform demolition, platform repair and rebar installation, and customer experience improvement installation.

Metro customers at Addison Road and Arlington Cemetery will enjoy safer, modernized stations when the stations reopen on Sunday, May 23, after three months of work to completely rebuild their platforms and make upgrades throughout the stations.
Arlington Cemetery and Addison Rd stations prepare for reopening in late May
With less than three weeks until Addison Rd and Arlington Cemetery stations reopen, crews are winding down construction and turning towards testing and finishing installation of the customer experience improvements.
April 21 Construction Update
Since the last construction update in early April, the project team has remained busy at Addison Rd and Arlington Cemetery stations as reconstruction work and installation of customer experience improvements continues for the Platform Improvement Project. Work continues to move ahead at a great pace, keeping the stations on track to open by the end of May.
Metro encourages Green and Yellow line customers to plan ahead for May 1-9 track work
Metro is reminding Green and Yellow line customers to plan ahead for scheduled track work May 1-9 that will require free shuttle buses to replace trains at four stations over one weekend and the weeklong closure of West Hyattsville. The work will upgrade the interlocking system at Fort Totten, which allows trains to safely cross from one track to another.
Switching platforms at Addison Rd Station and other construction updates
Over the past week, the Platform Improvement Project team reached an important milestone with the major reconstruction work now finished on the first half of the platform at Addison Rd Station. While other minor work remains, including installation of security cameras, edge lighting, pylons and station signage, this is a significant milestone for the project team because it means they can now move over and begin platform reconstruction work on the second half of the platform.
March 24 Construction Update
The original concrete platforms have been demolished at Addison Rd and Arlington Cemetery stations, and nearly all of the new granite edges have been installed.
Metro announces travel alternatives during summer platform reconstruction work
Starting Saturday, May 29 through Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, Greenbelt, College Park-U of Md, Prince George's Plaza, and West Hyattsville stations on the Green and Yellow lines will be closed.
