Summer 2020 Platform Improvement Project Highlights

Published: Tuesday, September 8, 2020

The multi-year Platform Improvement Project hit a major milestone today as the project reached the 50% completion mark. This morning, Vienna and Dunn Loring stations reopened for rail service, marking 10 stations in total that have undergone platform reconstruction over the past two summers. The two other stations closed for platform reconstruction this summer – East Falls and West Falls Church – reopened ahead of schedule in August, even while taking into account new Covid-19 precautions at the work sites.

Returning customers will benefit from station improvements like slip-resistant tiles on the platforms and in the mezzanine areas, stainless-steel platform shelters with charging outlets/ports, additional Passenger Information Display (PIDS) screens, energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the stations and improved speakers for clearer public announcements and emergency notifications. Residual construction activities will continue into the fall, with no impact to rail service.
