Major Orange, Blue & Silver Line Track Work: McPherson Sq-Smithsonian, August 11-26

Advisory Effective: 8/11/18 - 8/26/18

SERVICE| TRAVEL ALTERNATIVES | BUS | RAIL | PARKING | OTHER OPTIONS | WEEKEND | INFORMATION

For 16 consecutive days (including 10 commuting days) when ridership is lighter in August, Metro will conduct around the clock construction on a segment of the Orange, Blue and Silver lines resulting in limited capacity, crowding and delays.

All Orange, Blue and Silver line customers are encouraged to use alternate transportation and to only use Metrorail if you have no other option.

The project is needed to address the tightest curve in the Metrorail system between McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations. Working around-the-clock, crews will rebuild the track infrastructure, including installation of new rail, new fasteners, and repairs to the concrete pads that support the rails. Crews will work on each track for approximately one week at a time so that single-track service can be maintained.

Due to single tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian, Orange and Silver line trains will operate every 20 minutes at all times of the day resulting in extensive delays and crowding. Blue Line trains will operate between Franconia-Springfield and Arlington Cemetery; additional Yellow Line trains will provide service during rush hour between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt. Customers traveling between Virginia and Downtown DC should use the Yellow Line instead.

On the weekends of August 11-12 and 25-26, Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level platform at Metro Center (Orange, Silver & Blue lines) will be closed.

Rush Hour Promise will not be in effect for trips on the Orange, Blue or Silver lines during this project.
