This year, volunteers will be required to register to participate and will have designated entry gates and times for a limited number of registered volunteers to enter.

TRAVEL TIPS

  • Due to the temporary removal of the 7000-series railcars from service, Metro is operating reduced service levels. Use Metro's trip planning tools, including Metro's Live Train Map, for real-time train information before heading to the station.
  • Most if not all trains will operate as 6-car trains. Please move up on the platform for boarding due to the shorter train length.
  • Traveling with a stroller? Use the elevator, not the escalators.
  • Do not hold the train doors. They do not operate like elevator doors and will not automatically reopen.
  • When boarding the train, step all the way into the car and move away from the doors to make room for passengers boarding behind you.
  • See something suspicious? Say something! Report suspicious activity or unattended items to Metro Transit Police. Call 202-962-2121 or text MyMTPD (696873).
  • Determine your fare, use the trip planner. Each passenger must have his or her own SmarTrip card.
  • The best option to avoid lines, is SmarTrip mobile pay. Download the SmarTrip app for iOS or Android to transfer an existing SmarTrip card to your mobile device or purchase a mobile SmarTrip card ($2 card fee applies).
