Judiciary Sq F Street entrance closure

Advisory Effective: 11/15/18 - 4/17/19

Beginning November 19, 2018, Metro will begin a major capital project replacing the two entrance escalators at the F Street entrance of Judiciary Square Station. The project will replace the current escalators, which were installed when the station opened and have exceeded their useful life, with brand new escalators that are more durable and reliable. Metro's contractor, KONE, will install the new escalators as part of an ongoing project to replace more than 130 escalators across the Metrorail system by the end of the decade.

How will this work affect my trip?

During construction, the F Street entrance of Judiciary Square will close. While these escalators are out of service, customers will have access to the station via two elevators at the street level by the National Building Museum and the escalators and stairs at the 4th Street entrance by the US and DC Courthouses, which were rebuilt in April.

How long will the project take?

The replacement of the F Street entrance escalators is expected to take about 6 months for site preparation, demolition, construction, installation and testing.
