Metrobus Service Changes: Effective May 29, 2022

Metrobus service changes take effect Sunday, May 29, 2022, in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Highlights of the service change include resuming X2 service to Lafayette Square in the District of Columbia, restoring K9 MetroExtra limited-stop service and extending the Saturday hours of service on routes in Maryland, and rerouting 22A service to the 395 Express Lanes during rush hours in Virginia. These changes add approximately 250 trips across the region to improve service and respond to customer demand. 

Timetable Adjustments

The following routes will have timetable adjustments to improve service:

DC: 32, 33, 36, 42, 43, 64, 70, 74, 79, 90, 92, D2, D8, G2, G8, H2, H4, H6, L2, M4, N2, N4, P6, S2, S9, U4, X2, X3

MD: 83, 86, 89M, C2, C4, C8, C21, C22, C26, C29, D12, D14, F2, F4, F6, F8, F14, J1, J2, K6, K9, K12, NH1, P18, R1, R2, R4, R12, T14, V12, V14, W14

VA: 1B, 2B, 3F, 3Y, 16E, 16Y, 17K, 18G, 22A, 23A, 25B

Other Route and Stop Changes

District of Columbia 

33 Wisconsin Avenue

• Service will be extended to L’Enfant Plaza via 7th Street during late night hours when Metrorail is closed, all days of the week.

70 Georgia Avenue-7th Street

• Service will be extended to L’Enfant Plaza via 7th Street during late night hours when Metrorail is closed, all days of the week.

• When buses serve L’Enfant Plaza, the stop along northbound 9th Street between Constitution and Pennsylvania avenues NW will not be served.

74 Convention Center-Southwest Waterfront

• Northbound buses to the Convention Center will end at 6th St & Massachusetts Ave NW rather than K St & 6th St NW.

• On weekdays, service will begin earlier in the morning.


A4 Anacostia-Fort Drum 

• On weekdays, passengers riding through Anacostia Station to or from US Coast Guard Headquarters will need to transfer. At Anacostia Station, buses to US Coast Guard Headquarters will board at Bay G. Buses to Fort Drum or DC Village will board at Bay L.

D2 Glover Park-Dupont Circle

• Weekday service will be improved to pre-Covid 19 frequencies.

E2 Ivy City-Fort Totten

• At Fort Totten Station, buses will serve Bay E instead of Bay D.

E4 Military Road-Crosstown

• At Fort Totten Station, buses to Riggs Park will serve Bay E instead of Bay D. Buses to Friendship Heights will continue to serve Bay J.

G8 Rhode Island Avenue

• Late night trips operating between downtown DC and Rhode Island Avenue Station will instead operate between downtown DC and Brookland Station.

H6 Brookland-Fort Lincoln

• Eastbound buses to Fort Lincoln will end at Fort Lincoln Drive & 33rd Place NE (Petersburg Apartments). Customers traveling within Fort Lincoln may remain on the bus for westbound travel without additional fare payment.

M4 Nebraska Avenue (change is delayed due to DDOT construction delays)

• The north end of the route will be extended to Knollwood Retirement Community via Oregon Avenue NW.

P6 Anacostia-Eckington

• The route will serve L’Enfant Plaza instead of Archives during late night hours when Metrorail is closed, every day of the week.

• When buses serve L’Enfant Plaza, stops along 4th Street between E Street SW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, and along Constitution and Pennsylvania avenues NW, will not be served. (For service to Archives, transfer to Route 70 or S2 at L’Enfant Plaza.)

• Near the Convention Center, buses will travel on 6th Street instead of 5th Street between H and K streets NW.

S2 16th Street

• Service will be extended to L’Enfant Plaza via 7th Street during late night hours when Metrorail is closed, all days of the week.

• When buses serve L’Enfant Plaza, stops along southbound 10th Street between Pennsylvania and Constitution avenues NW will not be served.

X2 Benning Road-H Street

• The downtown terminal will return to Lafayette Square (eastbound H Street at 15th Street NW). Service will no longer operate to the temporary McPherson Square terminal. 

Maryland

C8 College Park-White Flint

• At White Flint Station, buses will serve the stop along northbound Rockville Pike north of (farside) Marinelli Road adjacent to the station entrance.

• Buses will serve a new stop along southbound Citadel Avenue south of Old Georgetown Road.

• The stops on Marinelli Road between Citadel Avenue and Rockville Pike will no longer be served.

K9 New Hampshire Avenue-Maryland Limited

• Service will resume between Fort Totten Station and FDA-Federal Research Center (Mahan Road) during weekday rush hours.

K12 Forestville

• On Saturdays, service will end later at night.


F14 Sheriff Road-Capitol Heights

• On Saturdays, service will begin earlier in the morning and end later at night.


R1, R2 Riggs Road

• At Fort Totten Station, buses will serve Bay D instead of Bay E.

R4 Queens Chapel Road

• On Saturdays, service will begin earlier in the morning and end later at night.


T14 Rhode Island Avenue-New Carrollton

• On Saturdays, service will begin earlier in the morning and end later at night.


V12 District Heights-Suitland

• On Saturdays, service will begin earlier in the morning.


V14 District Heights-Seat Pleasant

• On Saturdays, service will end later at night.


Virginia

3F, 3Y Lee Highway-McPherson Square

• Route 3Y changes due to Roosevelt Bridge (I-66 bridge) weight restrictions: Eastbound service will operate via Arlington Memorial Bridge to McPherson Square. The stop on eastbound E Street & 20th Street NW will not be served. Westbound service will operate via the Whitehurst Freeway and Key Bridge to East Falls Church.

•The line name will change to Langston Boulevard-McPherson Square.

16E Columbia Pike

• At Franklin Square, the temporary terminal on eastbound K Street near 13th Street NW served during Franklin Park construction will become the permanent terminal.

16Y Columbia Pike-Farragut Square

• Due to Roosevelt Bridge (I-66 bridge) weight restrictions, the route will change to operate via Arlington Memorial Bridge between Barcroft and Farragut Square.

• The stop on eastbound E Street & 20th Street NW will not be served.

22A Barcroft-South Fairlington

• During weekday rush hours buses will bypass Pentagon City and travel via the 395 Express Lanes between the Pentagon and Shirlington Rotary in the peak direction of travel (northbound/eastbound during morning rush and southbound/westbound during afternoon rush).

• All weekend trips will continue to serve Pentagon City.
