Changes to selected routes in Virginia will begin Saturday, May 25, 2019, to provide travel alternatives during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project.

Beginning Saturday, May 25, 2019 through Sunday, September 8, 2019, selected routes in Virginia will increase service to accommodate extra passengers and serve as travel alternatives during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project (no Yellow and Blue line Metrorail service south of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport). After the Platform Improvement Project is finished, service on these routes will return to normal.

8S, 8Z Foxchase-Seminary Valley

  • On weekdays, new midday service will operate every 30 minutes during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project.
10A Alexandria-Pentagon
  • On weekdays, rush hour service will be improved to operate every 15 minutes instead of every 30 minutes during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project.
  • The route will be extended to serve the south side of Huntington Metrorail Station via Huntington Avenue and North Kings Highway to maintain connections to other bus service during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project.

11Y Mt. Vernon Express

  • On weekdays, rush hour service will be improved to operate approximately every 10-15 minutes instead of every 20-30 minutes.
  • New midday service will operate every 30 minutes between Potomac Park and Hunting Point during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project.

21A Landmark-Pentagon

  • On weekdays, new midday service will operate every 30 minutes during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project.

Metroway-Potomac Yard (MWY)

  • On weekdays, rush hour service will be improved to operate every eight minutes instead of every 12 minutes between Pentagon City and Braddock Rd Metrorail stations during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project.
  • New stops will be added on Potomac Avenue at East Glebe Road near the Kaiser Permanente and the National Institute for the Blind (NIB) Headquarters.

NH2 National Harbor-Alexandria

  • The route will be extended to serve the south side of Huntington Metrorail Station via North Kings Highway to maintain connections to Metrorail and other bus service during the Metrorail Platform Improvement Project. Buses will not serve the north side of Huntington Metrorail Station.

Other Service Change Beginning Sunday, June 23, 2019

New schedules will reflect adjusted trip times to improve on-time performance on these routes:

  • DC: 39, 52, 54, 92, 96, G9, H1, S9, V2, V4
  • MD: C29, F1, F2, T2, V12

Changes on some routes in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia will improve on-time performance and respond to ridership levels.

2A Washington Boulevard-Dunn Loring

  • On weekdays, morning eastbound and afternoon westbound rush hour service will operate every 15 minutes instead of every 10 minutes.

79 Georgia Avenue Limited

  • Route 79 MetroExtra Cash-Free Pilot will end. Regular Metrobus fare policy will apply. 

P6 Anacostia-Eckington

  • Weekday morning trips to McKinley Middle-High School (T Street & Summit Place NE, Eckington) departing Rhode Island Ave Metrorail Station at 7:53, 8:02, 8:11, and 8:20 a.m. will instead depart at 7:38, 7:52, 8:01, and 8:15 a.m.

S2, S4 16th Street

  • Supplemental weekday rush hour trips added in December 2018 will be removed from the schedule in response to additional larger articulated buses being used to carry more passengers.
The 7-Day Regional Bus Pass will decrease in price to $15 starting July 1, 2019. You start saving money after seven regular fare bus trips.
