NoMa-Gallaudet U Faregate Replacement

Advisory Effective: 8/8/22 - 9/2/22

En Español

On August 8, 2022, Metro will begin a capital project replacing the faregates at NoMa-Gallaudet U station with brand-new, faster and more reliable ones. This technology investment is part of Metro’s ongoing commitment to improving the customer experience and ensuring the regional infrastructure remains in a state of good repair.

Since launching the faregate replacement project in the summer of 2021, Metro has replaced approximately 75 percent of the faregates across the system. All 91 stations are expected to feature these new faregates by the end of 2022.

How will this work affect my trip?

The station’s M Street entrance will close for approximately two weeks while the faregates and aging underground infrastructure are replaced. To help improve customer flow, an additional gate will be added to the M Street entrance. Additionally, all new gates are capable of bi-directional operation, so that customers can enter or exit the station at any gate, increasing the number of gates a customer can use.

Once the M Street entrance faregates are installed and in-service, the Florida Avenue entrance will close for approximately two weeks while those faregates are replaced. Throughout construction, one entrance and the elevators will remain open.

How long will the project take?

The overall project is expected to take approximately one month (about two weeks per entrance).

How can I stay informed about the project?
