Potomac Avenue Escalator Replacement

Advisory Effective: 6/27/22 - 5/26/23

On June 27, 2022, Metro will begin a major capital project replacing the three entrance escalators at Potomac Avenue Station. All three escalators will be replaced with brand-new ones that are more durable and reliable. Metro’s contractor KONE will install the escalators as part of an ongoing project to replace 130 escalators across the Metrorail system by 2028, helping to ensure the regional infrastructure remains in a state of good repair.

How will this work affect my trip?

The entrance will remain open and two escalators will be available throughout construction. Escalators will be replaced one at a time and the elevator will remain open.

How long will the project take?

The replacement of all three escalators is expected to take approximately 11 months for site preparation, demolition, construction, installation and testing.

How can I stay informed about the project?
