Pentagon Escalator Replacement

Advisory Effective: 4/1/24 - 4/30/25

En Español

On April 1, 2024, Metro will begin a major capital project replacing the three entrance escalators at Pentagon Station’s north entrance. The three escalators will be replaced with brand-new ones that are more durable and reliable. The escalators are being installed as part of an ongoing Escalator Replacement Project to replace 130 escalators across the Metrorail system by 2028.

How will this work affect my trip?

Escalators at Pentagon will be replaced one at a time. While one escalator is being replaced the remaining two escalators will be operational with one escalator going up and one going down.

Metro will close the upper level bus loop and north entrance for two consecutive weekends during each escalator replacement for a crane to remove old escalator parts and install the new escalator. During the weekend closures, bus stops on the upper level bus loop will be temporarily relocated to the lower level bus loop. Please follow posted signage to find your bus stop.

During the weekend closures, the lower level bus loop, the south entrance, and the elevator will remain open. Rail service will not be impacted by the entrance closure or bus relocations.

How long will the project take?

The replacement of all three escalators is expected to be completed in April 2025.
