Farragut North K Street entrance reopens with new escalators

Farragut North entrance reopensThe K Street entrance of the Farragut North station is back open two weeks ahead of schedule.

The entrance now has three brand-new, more reliable escalators and a repaired support beam.

Metro closed the entrance to expedite the work. During construction, customers accessed the station using the two L Street entrances.

Metro’s contractor, KONE, has replaced 78 of 139 escalators as part of an ongoing escalator replacement project through 2027, helping to ensure our infrastructure remains in a state of good repair.

The average age of Metro’s escalators is now 9.4 years old, a vast improvement over the average age of 27 years in 2011 when Metro first launched the program. Newer escalators malfunction less often, and failure rates have been reduced by nearly 30% systemwide since the program began.

This year, escalators at Addison Road, Benning Road, Deanwood, Dupont Circle, Fort Totten, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Rosslyn, Vienna, L’Enfant Plaza, Franconia-Springfield, Pentagon, Medical Center, Crystal City and Twinbrook stations will be replaced.
