Media Advisory: Metro to host ribbon cutting event to celebrate early reopening of Tenleytown-AU Station east entrance

On Friday, December 1 at 1:30 p.m., Metro’s General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Randy Clarke, will mark the completion of the Tenleytown-AU Station Escalator Replacement Project and reopening of the eastern entrance of the station with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The two-year project, replacing seven of the station’s nine escalators with brand-new, more durable escalators was completed early and on budget. To complete the final escalators and expedite the project, Metro closed the east entrance in August.

Since the Escalator Replacement Project began in 2021, 69 escalators have been replaced at 21 stations. This event marks another milestone toward Metro’s goal to replace 130 escalators by 2028 and improve systemwide accessibility for all customers.
