Friendship Heights Metrorail station elevator to be modernized

The modernization of the street elevator at the north entrance (Western Avenue) of the Friendship Heights Metrorail station will begin Monday, January 8. The elevator is scheduled to be out of service for 20 weeks and is expected to return to service in late May. The elevators at the Jenifer Street entrance will continue normal operations during this time.

An elevator modernization includes replacing a majority of the mechanical parts and elevator cab equipment with new ones to ensure the elevator operates safely and reliably for customers, and extends the life of the elevator.
