Detoured Metrobus Routes Revised Near the Georgia Ave-Petworth Station


Changes Will Be Effective February 5

Metrobus routes 60, 62, 64, 66 and 68 will change starting Monday, February 5, 2007. These bus routes were detoured due to the joint development construction at the Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro station.

Metro will make the changes in response to customer complaints about the loss of northbound service on the New Hampshire Avenue and to address safety concerns near the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Upshur Street.

The changes are as follows:

Route 60 - Southbound
Buses will follow the regular route to the new terminal stop on the west side of Georgia Avenue, north of Quincy Street, NW.

Route 60 - Northbound
From the new terminal stop on the west side of Georgia Avenue, north of Quincy Street, NW, buses will continue on Georgia Avenue, turn right on New Hampshire Avenue, turn left on Princeton Place, then turn left on Georgia Avenue and continue with the regular route.

Route 62 - Southbound
Buses will follow the regular route to the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Quincy Street, NW, then continue on Georgia Avenue, turn right on New Hampshire Avenue and continue to the new terminal stop on the north side of New Hampshire Avenue, west of Georgia Avenue.

Route 62 - Northbound
Buses will travel from the new terminal stop on the north side of New Hampshire Avenue, west of Georgia Avenue, NW, then continue on New Hampshire Avenue, turn left on Princeton Place, turn left on Georgia Avenue and then continue the regular route.

Route 64 - Southbound
Buses will follow the regular route to the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Quincy Street, NW, then continue on New Hampshire Avenue to the new terminal stop on the north side of New Hampshire Avenue, west of Georgia Avenue.

Route 64 - Northbound
Buses will travel from the new terminal stop on the north side of New Hampshire Avenue, west of Georgia Avenue, NW, continue on New Hampshire Avenue, turn left on Princeton Place, turn left on Georgia Avenue, turn right on New Hampshire Avenue and continue the regular route.

Routes 66, 68 - Northbound
Buses will follow the regular route to the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Princeton Place, NW, then continue on New Hampshire Avenue to the new terminal stop on the south side of new Hampshire Avenue, west of Georgia Avenue. This stop and terminal will not be served during the morning rush hour due to thru-routed service. These routes will no longer serve the stop on the east side of Georgia Avenue, south of New Hampshire Avenue.

Routes 66, 68 - Southbound
From the new terminal stop on the south side of New Hampshire Avenue, buses will travel west of Georgia Avenue, NW, continue on New Hampshire Avenue, turn left on Quincy Street, turn left on Georgia Avenue, turn right on New Hampshire Avenue and continue the regular route. This stop and terminal will not be served during the morning rush due to thru-routed service.

Thru-Routed Trips
During the morning rush hour, Route 62 and 64 trips will be thru-routed with Route 66 and 68 trips at Georgia Ave-Petworth Station, to minimize transfers for customers continuing to downtown. These thru-routed trips require different detour routes as follows:

Route 62 to Routes 66, 68 - Southbound
Route 66, 68 trips will begin at the new Route 62 terminal stop on the north side of New Hampshire Avenue, west of Georgia Avenue, NW, then continue New Hampshire Avenue and continue with the regular route.

Route 64 to Route 66 - Southbound
Route 66 trips will begin at the new Route 64 terminal stop on the north side of New Hampshire Avenue, west of Georgia Avenue, NW, then continue on New Hampshire Avenue and continue the regular route.

Routes 66, 68 to Routes 62, 62 - Northbound
Route 66, 68 trips will follow the regular bus route to the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Princeton Place, then turn right on Princeton Place, turn left on Georgia Avenue to the new terminal stop on the east side of Georgia Avenue, south of New Hampshire Avenue, where Routes 62 and 64 will begin.


The west entrance of the Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail station on the Green Line closed on Monday, December 11, 2006 due to a residential and retail construction project. Construction of 156 residential units and retail space in the area began in August of 2006. The construction is expected to last two years and the station entrance will reopen in 2008.
