Short Circuit in Power Cable at National Airport Metrorail Station Delays Blue and Yellow Line Morning Commute

A short circuit in a power cable along the running rail at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metrorail station caused significant delays on the Blue and Yellow lines this morning.

At 8:16 a.m., a Metrorail supervisor reported the short circuit on the outbound track at the National Airport station in the direction of Franconia-Springfield and Huntington.

Blue and Yellow line trains shared one track between the Pentagon City and National Airport Metrorail stations. Metro also provided free shuttle bus service between the Braddock Road and Pentagon City Metrorail stations.

Normal service resumed at 9:35 a.m., however residual delays continued throughout the morning. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
