Metro dealing with inclement weather

Metrorail’s rush hour service has been extended to 11 a.m. because the federal government is opening two hours late and Metrobuses are running mainly on snow emergency routes due to snowy and icy road conditions.

Metrobuses have been able to provide only limited service this morning due to poor road conditions throughout the region. About 60 buses suffered the consequences of navigating unplowed streets and became temporarily stuck in the snow and ice before 9 a.m. All have been dislodged and continued their trips.

As the local roadways are plowed, buses will return to those plowed neighborhoods and side streets.

MetroAccess is running limited emergency service all day.

Metrorail had its de-icer trains continue to run on the tracks throughout the night, paying close attention to the above-ground sections of the rail system to make sure the third rail, which provides electricity to the trains, remained clear of snow and ice.

Earlier today, a track problem at the Dupont Circle Metrorail station caused some moderate delays starting at 8:15 a.m. Residual delays are expected to continue until about 9:45 a.m.

Metro customers should build extra time into their commutes due to weather conditions.
