Metro Employees Donate $9,215 to Local Charity

For most of the region, the winter holiday season is a distant memory, but some Metro employees are keeping the holiday spirit alive year round. Yesterday, February 22, Metro employees gave representatives from So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E.) a check for $9,215 raised as part of the Accounting Department’s 13th annual holiday auction held last December. S.O.M.E. is a local charity dedicated to helping the homeless.

Each year, Metro employees donate items to auction off on behalf of a randomly selected charity. In the past, organizations have included Children’s Hospital, the Whitman-Walker Clinic and the American Heart Association.

Employees donated a variety of items including a seven-day vacation, which sold for $850, and original works of art. The items for auction ranged from the creative to the hand-made, including rival Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys gift baskets, a hand-crocheted table cloth and hand-knitted scarves. Many of the hand-made items were completed while commuting on Metro.
