Man fatally struck by train at Columbia Heights Metrorail station

A man was fatally struck by a six-car train on the Yellow Line at the Columbia Heights Metrorail station at 1:41 p.m. today (Tuesday, March 13). The train was traveling inbound toward the Huntington Metrorail station.

Eyewitnesses report that the 57-year-old man was intentionally on the tracks.

Green and Yellow line trains are sharing one track around the scene while police and emergency personnel investigate the incident. Trains are being single tracked between the Georgia Ave-Petworth and U St/African-Amer Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metrorail stations. To further help Metro customers get around the incident scene, shuttle buses will take passengers from Georgia Ave-Petworth to Columbia Heights to U Street.
