Rockville station reopened

The Rockville Metrorail station was closed for 2 and a half hours from 5:29 to 7:58 p.m. Wednesday, March 14 due to suspicious packages on board an Amtrak/MARC station, which is adjacent to the Metrorail station. Red Line service was stopped at the Twinbrook Metrorail station while local law enforcement officials investigated the items.

Passengers heading to the Rockville and Shady Grove Metrorail stations had to exit at Twinbrook and catch a free shuttle bus around the incident. Customers headed downtown from Shady Grove and Rockville also needed to catch a shuttle bus to catch a train at Twinbrook. Metro’s shuttle buses are able to carry about 60 people per bus.

During an average weekday, 881 people enter the Rockville station during the afternoon peak period and 1,954 people exit the station. At the Shady Grove Metrorail station, 1,370 people enter and 7,571 people exit the station.
