Metro introduces Adopt-A-Bus Stop program

Have you hugged your bus stop today?

Metro is making it easier for people in the region to help keep their communities clean by introducing the Adopt-A-Bus Stop program. An individual, group or business can adopt a Metrobus stop, a commitment that includes clearing the stop of litter and debris and reporting graffiti, damage or suspicious packages at the stop to the appropriate Metro official. In exchange, Metro will install a plaque bearing the volunteer’s name at the designated Metrobus stop and provide volunteers with cleaning supplies, safety vests, trash removers and trash bags.

“This is a wonderful way for individuals and groups to demonstrate their community pride in a way that is pedestrian-friendly,” said Metro General Manager John Catoe. “It’s a good opportunity for individuals to partner with us.”

Anyone interested in participating in the program should contact Metro’s Adopt-A-Bus Stop line at (202) 962-1107. Metro staff will help volunteers select bus stops and will coordinate distribution of the materials needed to keep Metrobus stops clean and litter-free.

Metro has more than 12,000 bus stops.
