Metro Travels to Europe through Poems

Launch a trip through Europe with Metro and your imagination. Beginning Tuesday, May 1, and throughout the month of May, Metro will be displaying poems from Europe in its buses and Metrorail stations as part of the European Poetry in Motion Public Arts Project.

To commemorate the 50th year of the European Union and its 27 member states, the European Commission in Washington, DC, launched the literary project. Each country chose five poems to be displayed in both their original language and in English inside Metrobuses and Metrorail stations.

“The program is design to increase cultural awareness, promote literacy and enrich the cultural environment of the region,” said Michael McBride, Metro’s Art in Transit Program Manager.

The project is sponsored by the European Commission, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Alexandria, Arlington and Prince George’s County Arts Councils, Metro, and the Poetry Society of America.
