Silver Spring Metrorail station will get new entrance

The Metro Board of Directors approved today the construction of a new south entrance at the Silver Spring Metrorail station.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Discovery Communications Inc., requested an additional entrance at the south mezzanine of the Silver Spring Metrorail station for improved customer access southwest of the station.

Montgomery County is providing $400,000 for the project costs, including construction and installation of fare collection equipment.

Construction of the new entrance is scheduled to start this summer and will last approximately six weeks. It is not expected to affect Metrorail service.
