Metrorail Records Eighth Highest Weekday Ridership In its 31-Year History


793,392 Riders Used Metrorail on Thursday, June 7

Hundreds of thousands of people yesterday helped Metro set the transit agency’s eighth highest ridership day in the history of the 31-year-old rail system. Riders took 793,392 trips, which was 19,137 more trips than the same day last year. Beautiful weather and the Washington Nationals contributed to yesterday’s high numbers. Combined with Metrobus ridership, Metro provided 1.2 million trips yesterday. Typical weekday bus ridership has been about 424,000 trips.

This is third consecutive day that Metro has recorded a high weekday ridership total. On Tuesday, passengers made 783,024 trips in the Metrorail system, and 796,087 trips were made on Wednesday, the seventh highest weekday ridership day in Metrorail history.
