Metrorail Records Sixth Highest Weekday Ridership In its 31-Year History

805,153 Riders Used Metrorail on Friday, June 22

Hundreds of thousands of people helped Metro set the transit agency’s sixth highest ridership day in the history of the 31-year-old rail system on Friday. Riders took 805,153 trips, which were 66,655 more trips than the same day last year. Continued high gas prices, an influx of visitors to the region and a Washington Nationals baseball game all contributed to Friday’s high numbers.

Combined with Metrobus ridership, Metro provides more than 1.2 million trips on an average weekday.
