Real-Time Escalator and Elevator Information Available at Riders' Fingertips

Metrorail riders can find out if a station escalator or elevator is in-or out-of-service at their station even before they get there. Riders can now access escalator and elevator information on their web-enabled PDAs and wireless devices.

By following a few easy steps, riders can find real-time elevator and escalator information on their Blackberrys. This information is similar to what they find on their desktop computers.

“With this information readily accessible, our customers can now plan their time more efficiently with real-time information before they get to a Metrorail station,” said Gerald C. Francis, Metro’s Deputy General Manager and Chief Executive Officer. “Having this information available through wireless devices makes everyday life easier and more convenient for Metrorail riders. This kind of customer-friendly service is another sign of Metro’s commitment to reach out to customers through new technology.”

To access elevator and escalator information through a Blackberry or other web-enabled device, visit http://wmata.com/mobile and select “Elevator/Escalator Outages.” Customers can check to see if their station has an escalator or elevator outage. If their station is on the list, they can click on a station name to get more information.
