Metro to offer free bus rides to kids in Prince George's County

Who says there’s no such thing as a free ride? Metro will offer just that to school-age children on weekdays between 2 and 7 p.m., in Prince George’s County.

The Metro Board approved the perk today. It begins on Monday, August 20, to coincide with the first day of the new school year. Middle- and high school-aged students will be asked to display a current school photo identification card to identify themselves as eligible for the free-ride program.

Prince George’s County is picking up the tab for the free rides program which will cost $300,000 and will continue through the end of Metro’s fiscal year, which concludes on June 30, 2008.

Metrobus operates 82 routes in Prince George’s County, Md.
