Riders' Advisory Council Seeks New Members to Represent Virginia

Metro’s Riders’ Advisory Council needs riders from Virginia to fill three vacancies on the volunteer Council, two positions from Fairfax County and one from Arlington County.

The 21-member Council is made up of six individuals from Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, two at-large members and the head of Metro’s Elderly and Disabled Transportation Advisory Committee. The council advises the agency’s Board of Directors. It was created in December 2005 as part of a series of initiatives to improve communications with riders.

Metro is looking for people who ride bus, rail and/or MetroAccess; live in Arlington and Fairfax counties; are not Metro employees, contractors or elected officials to fill the vacancies. All positions are unpaid. Metro’s Board will select the final candidates.

The individuals on the Riders’ Advisory Council represent a cross section of the entire region. The Council includes people with different riding patterns, people who use Metrobus, Metrorail and MetroAccess; transit-dependent people; people with disabilities; people who travel short distances and others who travel long distances.

Applications can be found at www.metroopensdoors.com; click on Outreach, then Riders’ Advisory Council. Applications are also available at the Metro Sales Centers outlets at the Metro Center and Pentagon Transit Center stations and at Metro headquarters located at 600 Fifth Street, NW. The deadline to apply is August 24 at 5 p.m.
