Metro Wins Three AdWheel Awards

Metro has won three 2007 AdWheel Awards from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). The AdWheel Awards, which recognize excellence in public transportation marketing and communications, were presented by the American Public Transportation Association. More than 750 entries were received in this year’s competition.

The winning ads are an environmentally focused wrapped bus ad called the “Go Green Wrapped Bus,” an outdoor ad about the economic advantages of using Metro, called “High Gas” and a public service ad that promoted the environmental advantages of Metro, called “Off-Peak – Tree Radio.”

The “Go Green” wrapped bus ad featured leafy plants, colorful flowers, a panda, a fox and deer. It promoted the new fleet of CNG and hybrid buses and how customers help reduce air pollution by riding Metrobus.

The “High Gas” ad created a comparison between gas usage and riding Metrobus and Metrorail. Ads posted in Metrorail station walls showed how, in times of high gas prices, Metro can be less expensive than driving.

The “Off-Peak – Tree Radio” public service announcement also promoted the use of public transit as a way to keep the environment clean. It featured two trees having a conversation promoting the use of public transportation for other transportation purposes other than commuting to and from work.

All three of the ads were part of the “Go Green on Metro” campaign reminding the region’s residents about the environmental and economic benefits of using Metrobus and Metrorail. The “Go Green on Metro” ads appeared at gas stations, bus shelters, Metrorail stations and on Metrobuses.
