Weekend track maintenance and rail car testing to affect Metro's Red, Blue, Orange and Green lines

Track maintenance and rail car testing on the Red, Orange and Green lines this weekend (November 2-4) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Fort Totten and Takoma Metrorail stations should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, November 3, and Sunday, November 4. To help expedite rail travel towards downtown Washington, every other Red Line train traveling towards the Glenmont Metrorail station, will terminate at New York Ave-Florida Ave-Gallaudet U Metrorail station return to the Shady Grove Metrorail station.

Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU and West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail stations on the Orange Line should add up to 30 minutes of travel time for their trips this weekend because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 10 p.m., Friday, November 2, to closing (midnight), Sunday, November 4. To help expedite rail travel into downtown Washington, every other Orange Line train will terminate at the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station and return to the New Carrollton Metrorail station.

Green Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Georgia Avenue-Petworth and U St/African Amer Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metrorail stations should add up to 15 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro is providing Verizon Wireless track access to conduct normal contractual maintenance and emergency work on its cables. Inbound and outbound trains will share one track between these locations from 11 p.m. to closing (3 a.m.) Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3.

Also on the Green Line, trains will share a single track between the Anacostia and Navy Yard Metrorail stations because of tile work at the Navy Yard station. The work will be done from 10 p.m. Friday, November 2, through system closing on Sunday, November 4.

Green Line Rail Car Testing

Metrorail customers should add 10 to15 minutes of travel time on the Green Line for their trips because of new railcar testing. Inbound and outbound trains operating between the Greenbelt and College Park Metrorail stations will share one track while new trains are tested from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 3.
