Huntington, and Eisenhower Avenue Metro Stations to Close this Weekend for Track Work

Metro will undertake a major track rehabilitation project this weekend at the Huntington Metrorail station on the Yellow Line requiring the closure of the Huntington and Eisenhower Avenue Metrorail stations. The Yellow Line will operate from the Fort Totten to Franconia-Springfield Metrorail stations. Metro will provide free shuttle bus service between Huntington and King Street with a stop at Eisenhower Avenue to get riders around the closure.

Metro will replace the rail switch outside the Huntington Metrorail station on the Yellow Line from 9 p.m., Friday, November 9 to midnight, Monday, November 12 (Veterans Day). A rail switch or “interlocking” is an intersection in the track, where trains switch from one track to another. This work must be done to ensure service quality and safe operation through the Huntington Metrorail station.

To perform this work, the following service pattern will be in effect:

O The Yellow Line will operate between the Fort Totten and Franconia-Springfield Metrorail stations from 9 p.m., Friday, November 9, to midnight, Monday, November 12 (Veterans Day).

O The Yellow Line will operate on its regular weekend schedules and will operate on a modified Saturday schedule on Monday, November 12, Veterans Day.

O Metro will provide free shuttle bus service every five minutes between the Huntington and King Street Metrorail stations with a stop at the Eisenhower Avenue Metrorail stations.

O Parking is always free on the weekends and major holidays.

O Yellow Line riders who normally use the Huntington Metrorail station should park at the Franconia-Springfield Metrorail station if they do not wish to wait for the shuttle bus from Huntington, Eisenhower Avenue and King Street.

To alert customers about this work, Metro will place banners in stations, notices at station manager’s kiosks, and make train and system announcements. Additional information is available on Metro’s web site at www.metroopensdoors.com.

The Trip Planner, located on Metro’s Web site, will not reflect the impact of this work on its schedules. Customers should allow more time for their trips because of this work. For more information on traveling by Metrobus or Metrorail, customers may call (202) 637-7000 or TTY (202) 638-3780.
