Metro to Operate Extra Trains and Buses in Anticipation of Thanksgiving Week Travel to All Three Local Airports

Metro Service to all Three Airports Gives Travelers Convenient Options Over The Holiday Weekend

As Washingtonians prepare their Thanksgiving travel plans, Metro is preparing to make it easier for everyone traveling to all three local airports on Sunday, November 25. Metrorail will operate special Thanksgiving trains to the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metrorail station on the Blue and Yellow lines , and Metrobus will operate extra buses to the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

Metro service to all three major Washington, D.C. airports will provide Thanksgiving travelers with reliable and economical transportation. Air travel is expected to be heavy from Wednesday, November 21 through Sunday, November 25.

“As gas prices soar to over $3 a gallon, Washington area residents should leave their cars at home and not worry about parking at the major airports and use Metro,” said Gerald Francis, Metro’s Deputy General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. “Thanksgiving weekend is one of the most popular weekends for air travel and providing additional trains and buses during Thanksgiving week will show that Metro is in tune with the needs of our customers.”

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

Air travelers can reach the airport by riding Metro’s Blue and Yellow lines. On Thanksgiving Day, Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule, opening at 7 a.m., and closing at midnight.

On Sunday, November 25, Metrorail will operate extra Thanksgiving trains between the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail stations from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The extra trains will operate every 15 minutes and will supplement Metro’s Sunday Blue and Yellow Line trains which operate every 15 minutes from the ends of each line.

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport

Air travelers can reach the airport by riding Metro’s Green Line to the Greenbelt Metrorail station and then catching the B30 Metrobus which provides direct service from the train station to the airport.

Metro will provide extra buses on Wednesday, November 21, Saturday, November 24, from noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday, November 25, as the B30 will operate every 20 minutes instead of the usual 40 minutes.

On Thursday, November 22, Thanksgiving Day, the B30 will operate every 40 minutes on a Sunday schedule.

The cost of the B30 Metrobus service is just $3 each way. For schedules and travel times, please visit Metro’s Web site at www.metroopensdoors.com or contact Metro at 202-637-7000.

Washington Dulles International Airport

Air travelers have two options to reach the airport. One option is riding Metro’s Orange Line to the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail station and boarding the Washington Flyer bus to the airport.

A second option for air travelers is catching the 5A Metrobus at the L’Enfant Plaza or Rosslyn Metrorail station, which provides direct service to the airport.

On Sunday, November 25, Metro will have additional buses available to transport riders to the airport. The additional buses will be available based on service demand throughout the day.

On Thursday, November 22, Thanksgiving Day, the 5A will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Service is available every 40 minutes in both directions and the cost of the service is just $3 each way. For schedules and travel times, please visit Metro’s Web site at www.metroopensdoors.com or contact Metro at 202-637-7000.

“Our services will demonstrate that we do what we can to provide quality service by getting people from the airport back downtown and vice versa as quickly as possible,” said Mr. Francis.
