Metro Transit Police Arrest Two Juveniles for Carjacking

Metro Transit Police have arrested two teenagers and charges are pending against a third in connection with a carjacking at the Greenbelt Metrorail station around 10 p.m. last night.

The preliminary police investigation indicated that a female customer was attacked and carjacked by 16 and 15 year-old males when she got to her car in the parking lot at the Greenbelt Metrorail station. Metro Transit Police responded to the scene and immediately broadcast a lookout. Transit Police officers spotted the stolen vehicle around 1 a.m. at the Southern Avenue Metorail station. The officers tried to stop the car but it sped away and crashed into a wooded area off the Suitland Parkway. Two 16 year-old males were injured in the crash and detained at the scene. Police believe the 15 year-old was dropped off at home in time to meet a curfew and the 16 year-old driver picked up another teenage friend before the crash. The friend was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Transit Police arrested the 15 year-old boy today in connection with the carjacking.

“We are pleased that the suspects are in custody” said Commander David Webb, of the Criminal Investigation Division. “People who think that they can commit crimes at our Metrorail stations and get away by fleeing into a neighboring jurisdiction are wrong. Our Transit Police officers are constantly patrolling our stations providing a safe environment for our customers and employees,” Webb said.

The 16 year-old driver has been charged with felony carjacking. The 15 year-old is charged with being a passenger in a stolen vehicle. Charges are pending against the third teenager who was injured.
