Weekend Track Maintenance and Rail Car Testing to Affect Metro's Red, Orange, Blue, Yellow and Green Lines

Track maintenance and rail car testing on the Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow and Green lines this weekend (December 7-December 9) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Friendship Heights and Medical Center Metrorail stations should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 9 p.m., Friday, December 7, to 6 p.m., Saturday, December 8, and from 9 p.m., Saturday, December 8, to 6 p.m., Sunday, December 9.

Metrorail customers traveling between the Grosvenor-Strathmore and Medical Center Metrorail stations should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 8 p.m. to closing (midnight), Sunday, December 9.

Orange Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the New Carrollton and Cheverly Metrorail stations on the Orange Line should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips this weekend because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, December 8, and Sunday, December 9. To help expedite rail travel towards downtown Washington, every other Orange Line train traveling towards the New Carrollton Metrorail station, will terminate at the Cheverly Metrorail station return to the Vienna/Fairfax-GMU Metrorail station.

Blue and Orange Line Verizon Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Eastern Market and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro is providing Verizon Wireless track access to conduct normal contractual maintenance and emergency work on its cables. Inbound and outbound trains will share one track between these locations from midnight to closing (3 a.m.) Friday, December 7, and Saturday, December 8.

Blue and Yellow Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Braddock Road and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Metrorail stations should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because of track maintenance. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 10 p.m. to closing (midnight), Sunday, December 9.

Green Line Rail Car Testing

Metrorail customers should add 10 to15 minutes of travel time on the Green Line for their trips because of new railcar testing. Inbound and outbound trains operating between the Greenbelt and College Park Metrorail stations will share one track while new trains are tested from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 8.
