The performances are part of Metroperforms!, a program designed to showcase the talents of area artists at select station entrances throughout the year.

Metro invited local arts councils in areas served by Metro to help select and schedule performances at stations in their respective jurisdictions. In its first year, the program includes participation from the District of Columbia, Montgomery County and Prince George’s County. Metroperforms! is a program aimed at enhancing the experience of transit users and pedestrians, and supporting the arts in the region.

Program participants are not permitted to sell merchandise, nor ask for money from the public while performing. The local arts councils pay the performers a stipend.  The December performances are sponsored by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
