Major delays on Green Line due to individual struck by train

Metrorail customers can expect major delays along the Green Line this afternoon, Monday, December 10, due to an individual who was struck by a train as it pulled into the Fort Totten Metrorail station headed in the direction of Branch Avenue. The incident took place at 4:40 p.m.

Trains are single-tracking through the area, taking turns headed in both directions between West Hyattsville and Georgia Ave-Petworth Metrorail stations. Shuttle buses have also been requested to help passengers get around the incident. The wait for the free shuttles buses is likely to be long because a bus can only carry up to 60 passengers and a six-car train can carry closer to 800 passengers.

Customers who can use the Red Line to get around the situation by transferring at Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station or at the Fort Totten Metrorail station are encouraged to do so.

The man was struck by a six-car train. He is being treated by emergency medical personnel and will be taken to an area hospital. All six cars of the train are in the tunnel, as the train stopped shy of the station platform at the time of the incident.
