Major delays on Green Line through remainder of rush hour

Metrorail customers can expect major delays along the Green Line this afternoon, Monday, December 10, due to an individual who was struck by a train as it pulled into the Fort Totten Metrorail station headed in the direction of Branch Avenue. The incident took place at 4:40 p.m. Regular service resumed at 5:23 p.m.

Trains were single-tracking around the incident from 4:40 to 5:23 p.m., at which time trains resumed service to the station on both tracks. However, residual delays are expected to last along the Green Line until about 6:30 p.m.

Customers who can use the Red Line to get around the delays by transferring at Gallery Place-Chinatown Metrorail station or at the Fort Totten Metrorail station are encouraged to do so.

The man was struck by a six-car train. He was treated by emergency medical personnel and taken to an area hospital. All six cars of the train were in the tunnel as the train stopped shy of the station platform at the time of the incident. Passengers remained on board the train until the man was taken to a hospital and the train was able to pull into the station.

Metro Transit Police and Metro’s Safety Department are conducting an investigation of the incident.
