Weekend Track Maintenance and Rail Car Testing to Affect Metro's Red, Orange, Blue and Green Lines

Track maintenance and rail car testing on the Red, Green, Blue and Orange lines this weekend (February 29- March 2) will cause inbound and outbound trains to take turns sharing one track.

Red Line Track Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Dupont Circle and Friendship Heights Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes of travel time for their trips because of switch maintenance work at the Van Ness-UDC Metrorail station. Inbound and outbound trains between these locations will share one track from 9 p.m., Friday, February 29, to closing (midnight) Sunday, March 2. To help expedite rail travel, every other Red Line train traveling towards the Shady Grove Metrorail station will terminate at the Farragut North Metrorail station and return to the Glenmont Metrorail station and every other Red Line train traveling towards the Glenmont Metrorail station will terminate at the Friendship Heights Metrorail stations and return to the Shady Grove Metrorail station.

Blue and Orange Line Verizon Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Smithsonian and Capitol South Metrorail stations on the Blue and Orange lines should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trips because Metro is providing Verizon Wireless track access to conduct normal contractual maintenance and emergency work on its cables. Inbound and outbound trains will share one track between these locations from midnight to closing (3 a.m.), Friday, February 29, and Saturday, March 1.

Blue Line Maintenance

Metrorail customers traveling between the Morgan Boulevard and Largo Town Center Metrorail stations should add up to 20 minutes of travel time for their trip because of maintenance at the Morgan Boulevard Metrorail station. Inbound and outbound trains will share one track between these locations from 10 p.m., Saturday March 1, to 10 a.m., Sunday, March 2. 

Green Line Rail Car Testing

Metrorail customers should add 10 to15 minutes of travel time on the Green Line for their trips because of new railcar testing. Inbound and outbound trains operating between the Greenbelt and College Park Metrorail stations will share one track while new trains are tested from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1.
